Floating offshore wind in South Sicily
Enabling a sustainable future for Italy's energy needs
The project
The Sicily South Offshore Wind Project, located in the
heart of the Strait of Sicily, is a pioneering renewable energy development positioned 22 kilometers from shore off the coast of Agrigento for the first structures, and maximum of 40 kilometers.
The project spans water depths ranging from
280 to 650 meters, showcasing advanced offshore
engineering capabilities.
With a planned installed capacity of 1140 MW, the project
will generate enough electricity to power 1.5 million
households.

Floating offshore wind
Offshore wind power can use 2 technologies that harness the energy of the wind at sea.
Bottom-fixed wind turbines are installed directly on a structure or jacket fixed to the seabed in shallower waters (up to 50–60 meters), relying on proven methods to capture strong coastal winds.
Floating wind turbines, resting on floating platforms secured by anchor lines, can be installed much further offshore in deeper waters, where winds are stronger and steadier. This floating technology minimizes disturbance to the seabed and reduces visual impact from the coast while coexisting smoothly with fishing, boating, and tourism activities.
Given the greater depths off the Italian coast, floating wind technology is the most suitable solution for our projects.

Vision
Offshore wind energy offers strong renewable
potential, harnessing consistent sea winds to provide
clean, reliable electricity for Italy’s green transition.
By moving wind farms offshore, we reduce environmental and visual impact, preserving coastal beauty and marine biodiversity.
Socially and environmentally sustainable
Our design approach aims to minimize both environmental and social impacts of large-scale offshore wind farms. We are committed to studying and protecting marine ecosystems and to engaging early with local communities and stakeholders to ensure that every project contributes positively to people and nature.

Why "Dentice"
Dentice (en: Dentex) embodies a strong connection with the Sicily Channel and its community of sea-users. The dentex is a powerful, site-loyal fish, a symbol of the long-term presence of a project designed to grow in harmony with local maritime activities. It reflects our ambition to work side by side with stakeholders and to create value that goes well beyond energy production.
